On Sunday 23rd February, Norfolk Wherry Brass (MD Eddie Baker) had a day preparing for this year’s London & Southern Counties Regional Brass Band Championships, to be held in Stevenage on Saturday 21st March.
The band, who were 4th Section National Champions as recently as 2012, have gone through a few tough years and are now starting to turn the corner with some new signings. In the last six months the band from the heart of the Norfolk Broads has attracted 5 brand new players, as well as another 3 or 4 returning to the band.
The band have enjoyed the work so far on the set piece, Neverland by Christopher Bond, but now was the time to turn the prep up a notch or two. So the band enlisted the services of Fodens Band MD, Michael Fowles to come and put the enthusiastic team through their paces. Although the day was geared around Neverland, Mike used his skill and experience to offer insightful and helpful advice that will serve the band well, not just in the preparation of Neverland, but also concert programmes going forward.
Both the band and Michael enjoyed the day and look forward to welcoming him back in the near future.
Norfolk Wherry Brass was formed in 2004 by a group of musicians from across East Anglia. The band is located in Neatishead, Norfolk, at one of the most eco-friendly village halls in Great Britain, the New Victory Hall.
